The Halekulani Gallery will feature a limited edition portfolio of notable Hawaii artists Reem Bassous, Sally French, Peggy Hopper, Deborah Gottheil Nehmad and Mary Mitsuda, originally published as a collection of signed and numbered editions for the Friends of the Hawaii State Art Museum.
2020, a year of a presidential election, marks the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. In 1920, the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution granted American women, the right to vote. The right, known as women’s suffrage, ended almost a century of protest. So what does the power of the female vote mean in the 21st century? Five of Hawaii’s acclaimed wahine artists reflect on suffrage, 100 years later, in this portfolio.
The Gallery is opening to the public on February 13 through April 30, with hours from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. daily.
